Up-and-coming Canadian avant-garde womenswear and headpiece designer Serean Bechara uses her passion for innovation and storytelling to create her illusionary and transcendent artistry. Fashion has always been her form of expression. She left Canada to pursue fashion at ESMOD International Fashion University in Beirut, Lebanon. Being surrounded by an amazing community of art, people, and culture inspired her. Bechara challenged the school to accept her creativity as her form of a social revolution with her ambition, and unwavering determination.
While in Beirut, she had the opportunity to intern for a variety of designers. Through these internships she created custom fabrications and prints designs, organize fashion shows, and learn meticulous hand-sewing techniques. Bechara returned to Canada to study at the Academy of Design in Toronto for a different perspective on design, graduating from the Fashion Design program in 2014. She used her advanced pattern drafting and construction abilities to create her debut avant-garde couture collection. Since graduating, she participated in Rock On Runway, winning the audience vote and placing 2nd with the judges. She has worked as a design assistant for RomoBlanc Bridal, participating in the Canada Bridal Show as well as a product developer/illustrator for Divine Chohan, corset designer for Antonia’s Shapewear, and as a freelance costume designer for Anime North.
She recently completed Toronto Fashion Incubator’s ‘Fashion Your Future’ accessory entrepreneurship boot camp, and under the mentorship of Karyn Gingras, the designer of Lilliput Hats, she has completed her debut headpiece collection, ‘Stygian’. Bechara advances her abilities by striving to undertake inspired opportunities to bring art back into fashion.
